Tourist attractions in Magical Kenya

Kenya is a country with endless possibilities for the active traveler as it offers countless opportunities for discovery and adventure. A safari into Kenya does not necessarily mean exploring the nature from an open side's safari vehicle, there are other options available. Here are some of the things a true seeker of the adrenaline rush can do in Kenya. It is a true adventurer's paradise!

Extreme Water Sports Safari - the Kenyan coast and it's beaches are ideal for exploring by boat and the inland freshwater lakes, situated in the Rift Valley offer great opportunities for water skiing, windsurfing and boating.

White Water Rafting Safari- it is considered one of the greatest adventure safaris in Kenya. Kayaking and rafting are relatively new sports in the country, but the possibilities are countless, since the river systems are not only extensive, but also spectacular.

Fishing - The gorgeous lakes and rivers of Kenya are not only rich in birds, but they also provide plenty of opportunities for world-class fishing: from Nile Perch to Trout. Big Game Fishing in the Indian Ocean waters is also very popular, Kenya is considered one of the best places on Earth for this kind of fishing and is also Eco friendly Kenya lodge safari .

Camel Safari - If one wants to explore Kenya in a more unusual way a Camel Safari can provide that. The open side safari vehicle is the traditional way to go, but being on a camel's back is certainly closer to nature and gives the tourist an opportunity to travel like the nomadic tribes. Large herds of single humped camels live in North Kenya and are a traditional way to cross the arid plain lands and deserts through spectacular deep valleys and dry riverbeds.

Horse Back Safari - Since Kenya is a very active horse riding community it provides an excellent opportunity to explore the area up close and personal. We too will use the rocks starting with a refreshing lunch and short rest in our classic roomy safari tents. After lunch they head out on a short walk looking for game and getting a feel for the country. As the sun begins to set you will find ourselves at the crest of Nayusere and there a blanket with drinks and biting. As we enjoy our sundowners we will continue to spot game from our vantage and watch as the baboons come back to roost on the face of the rock. A short descent will find us back in camp for a delicious hardy dinner after your masai mara wildebeest migration safari in kenya .

Day two would be heading out early after breakfast so to see as much game as possible on our walk north towards Camp. Along our walk we will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush. Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant's gazelle predominate on the large plains with smaller numbers of Jackson's Hartebeest and Thompson's Gazelle. Kenya beach holidays In the mixed bush we find Dikdik, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if we are lucky enough to see them. We will be at a camp around lunch time. After lunch we will, resting, and later another walk in the evening to a pretty spot for sundowners.

The third day is a busy day heading down toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve.

Culture tour Information : Uganda Busoga's spirits find a new home

Busoga Kingdom is a cultural institution that promotes popular participation ‎and unity among the people of Busoga, through cultural and developmental programs ‎for the improved livelihood of the people of Busoga. It strives for a united people of ‎Busoga, who enjoy economic, social and cultural prosperity. It also continues to ‎enhance, revamp and pave the way for an efficient institutional and management ‎system for the Kyabazinga kingship .Besides, this kingdom is very rich with very many tourism potentials including the source of the nile,Bujagali falls, Itanda falls and many others.
Among all the tourism attractions in the kingdom, source of the Nile and Bujagali falls are the main key with many activities. It is also where the gods in the rock, under water and those on dry land gathered to listen to their “children’s” prayers. Today, the island has been left bare, minus vegetation, exposing its rock foundation. The right river bank where we get the waters were diverted leaving its bed gaping open, the rough rocks stare very rudely at the two high-mighty-gated-spillways made of rock and lime, yet these look down on the rocks so humbly yet confident and proud. However, gone are the days when people from all over the world could walk and also trekked the Bujagali route in search for life, wealth, wife, husband and children.. And no longer shall people flock the Nile river spot to curse away the drought, pray for good harvest or academic excellence for their children.
As presentation of Chinua Achene’s novel, Things Fall Apart, one of the characters Obierika remarks; the white man has placed a knife on the things which held us together and we have fallen apart. This is shortly after Okwonkwo returns to Umoufia only to find a church erect on the evil forest land wondering where all the warriors had gone, the same applies to Busoga kingdom when the Bujagali Energy Limited (BEL), a company spearheading the construction of the Dam .

Residents asked for a school or two, a health unit but most importantly they demanded their gods are secured a new home. BEL kept their promise. By June 29, three new shrines had been constructed at Namizi village Budondo subcounty in Jinja for the gods to inhabit. The relocation ceremony was punctuated with speeches especially testimonies from Busoga clan chiefs.
After the national and Busoga anthems, followed a prayer - not the usual “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name............ No. The ceremony of transferring the gods started; “Our gods, Budhagali, Lumbuye, Lubaale, Mukasa....and all grandfathers come in our midst... to ensure that the ceremony works out successfully.
Various assortments of fetishes, beads threaded together on backcloth in different measures were carefully placed the corners of each shrine one after the other amidst loud chants, drumming and vigorous dancing. With the chief custodian, Benedicto Infudu danced while shaking his head allegedly possessed, kicked hot coals with bare feet and put fire into his mouth as way of demonstrating his might. Infudu, says those who think these are lies, superstitions have lost their roots otherwise why do they find it easy to believe Jesus was son of God, he walked on water and performed several miracles including healing the sick but can’t believe a thing as Budhagali in their own land. What proof do they have? Mr Stephen Nantamu, the Minister of Culture and Inter kingdom cooperation in Busoga Kingdom said, “Budhagali is Busoga.”
To conclude the relocation ceremony, mounds of food and chunks of meat were heaped on people’s plates which they described as “a very important phase” in any particular rite but the head of community interventions at Bujagali Energy Limited, Zakalia Lubega, that the said the relocation was part of their community compensation commitment.

Birding in Mabira forest

Birding in Uganda is one of the most exciting safaris that one can experience in a lifetime because Uganda is gifted with a population of over 1000 different bird species spread all over the Country but with major birding areas one of which is the Mabira forest which supports over 300 bird species most of which are endemic to only Mabira Forest coupled with close to 218 butterfly species. An excellent Trail System allows access to both undisturbed primary and good secondary forest, Managed by the Forestry department with input from local community, Mabira Forest was opened to the public in 1996. The revenue generated from eco tourism is shared between the forestry department and the local community.

One of Mabira's strengths lies in the large number of birds which may be seen from the visitor's center. Flowering trees in the clearing attract a variety of sun birds such as green, Little Olive, Blue throated brown, Green throated, olive bellied and superb sun birds. Other forest edge species include speckle -breasted Woodpecker, Black throated Apalis, African blue Flycatcher and Grey-crowned Negro finch. The beautiful Primary forest south of the main Kampala-Jinja road is a prime birding area harbouring a number of species that avoid secondary forest.

This birding safari takes you to Mabira forest, a tropical rain forest in central Uganda for the search of forest birds secluded in this largest forest block in the Central part of Uganda. Other safari activities include Forest walks, butterfly viewing, primate watching (monkeys) etc. The Forest offers camping, picnics and hiking activities.

Gorilla Permits in Uganda Cheaper fro gorilla safaris

Information about the so called gorilla permit price have been on tight lips over these days in the week , when details finally were released by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the association of Uganda tour operators Kampala known as AUTO made an agreement between the two entities that at an undefined date during the low season in tourism. The price of the Gorilla permits is due to be reduced from 500 US dollars to 350 US dollars. The cost of a permit for East African residents is down from 250,000 UGX to 100,000 UGX. To enable even the lay Ugandan to experience the wealth of tourism that is in our midst.

There are worries that the decision that is made by the Uganda Wildlife Authority alongside the Association of Uganda tour operators AUTO is going to bring in some bit of friction between Uganda's competitors in the gorilla tourism sector, Namely Rwanda and Congo,as a tripartite forum some time ago had resolved that all three countries would charge the same rates, year round, without any rebates, discounts or seasonal adjustments.

This is still on more or less pending status as they are now awaiting approval from the ministry of Tourism and also a date is yet to be set for the tariffs to take full swing in effect. The UWA is also determined on improving the infrastructure to the Uganda national parks, namely Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ,etc.Hopefully by the end of the year , we shall have seen some great developments.

This measures were taken due to the downward trend of tourism in Uganda, the media had also played a role in presenting a negative image to the international community therefore leading to cancellations of Booked uganda tour packages to Uganda's top destinations.Gorilla trekking being one of the main and most popular tourist activities in the Pearl of Africa. This was a wanting measure ,that is justly taken.

Travel Guide for Safaris in uganda and rwanda

Best Time to Visit Uganda

Uganda is generally warm all year around and its position on the Equator explains the seasonal temperature variations. However, you should check out on the seasons if you are planning to visit national parks because some roads become almost impassable during the rain season. Usually the rains come in April, May, October and November. During these months camping is not an option and hiking as it is, is an uphill task during the rains.

Paper Work Necessary

You will need a valid passport that is not yet to expire at least for six months of the date on which you intend to leave Uganda. Should your passport be lost or stolen, it will be easier to get a replacement if you have a photocopy of important pages.

If you are intending to drive while in Uganda, you will need an international driver’s license together with your original license.Even Most of the Car rentals Uganda companies will ask for those original forms of identification.
An international health certificate indicating your Yellow fever status and other vaccinations like for Cholera.
Carry photo copies of your important documents and if possible leave copies of these documents with close relatives. Carry copies of your emergency numbers incase need arises.

VISAS

All foreign entrants require Visas at the entry points. The good news is that these Visas can be obtained from the Uganda Embassies in your countries of origin or on entry to the country. Visa rulings are prone to any changes so all visitor are required to check with their embassies or high commissions before coming to the country.

FLYING TO UGANDA

The main entry point for air travelers is Entebbe international Airport. Entebbe is 40km from Kampala the capital city of Uganda. The terminal is operated by most big International Airlines like BA, KLM, SN Brussels, United Arab Emirates, South African Air, Kenya Airways and many other Airlines. All the above mentioned Airlines have their offices in Kampala and at the airport, just incase you need any information concerning these airlines, they are always to there to help.

Getting to Kampala

A private taxi from the air port to the Uganda’s city centre in Kampala costs around USD30. The other alternative is to get a motor cycle commonly know as Boda Boda and it drops you in Entebbe town where you will have to board a 14 seater taxi that will charge around 2-3 dollar depending on the prevailing rate.

EATING AND DRINKING

Meals are served in various restaurants in the towns and some small trading centers here and there in Uganda. The dishes range from local dishes to international cuisines and fast foods. These meals are very affordable with prices ranging from 2$-10$ and above depending on the place you decide to settle for your meal.

Bottled and canned beverages are on sale in shops, restaurants and bars every where, be cautious while taking drinking water because it’s not completely safe, I rather you only take bottled mineral water.

Fruits are every where in the markets and are in most cases fresh produces right from the gardens. Vegetables are also in plenty and vegetarian meals can be prepared on order.

How secure are your systems think like a hacker!

There are so many prying eyes when it comes to data communication, is somebody sniffing your network or redirecting your traffic?. We often concentrate on external attacks and less focus on our internal clients. Most of the holes on your network, data taken out or vulnerabilities on the network are from with in. It helps to do some security awareness training to all your staff and deterrent actions like the Non disclosure acts. Security policies will help you as a system admin get the protection you need. Due care and due diligence must be exercised to protect you, it is very hard to have perfect preventive and deterrent measures in place but it helps to have something in place before you get hit.
If your users are having tools they should not be having like wireshark, WS_Ping Pro pack e.t.c then it is suggestive of something creeping going on, often these are prelude activities that your internal users may engage in before any thing massive takes place.
Play a white-hat-hacker on you own network to discover possible vulnerabilities before the adversary learns of them and make use of them. Once the vulnerabilities have been discovered, plug them up, issue warnings to those engaging in unauthorised activities, basically do all you can before you get compromised.

The cost of africa getting Tech

Information technology is the driving force in all sectors the world over. Basically it involves the use of equipment and techniques to handle and process information. The term is more specifically used to refer to electronic communications and the use of computing, this allows easy disbursement of information. Today you can have your e-mail follow you while you ride a Matatu to Kyalo (village in Lugasoga) or through Jam on your way to work , you simply pop your mail from your exchange server where ever you may be. With recent innovations like blackberry services and other types of PDA, you move around with your office, of course this could be a disadvantage since not many people want to have work mail following them wherever they go or your PDA is stolen, you may morn little about the price of the device but more on the possibility of sensitive information landing into the hands of evil doers. But again you do not have to go to an internet café, wait till your office is open or get back from a extended distance work trip in order to know what is happening in your business realm.
Yes you would expect that this type of technology would be available to only those in the Europe, USA and Asia. Africans are found of having the best of the best when it comes to technology now days. They want the latest Laptops, the lates Nokias and many more even if they can’t fully use it or understand its functions.
This craze of wishing for newer toys on the market by businesses, government institutions and individuals have led IT investments in Africa to simply be looked at as Cost centers yet on the contrary IT should be a business Enabler.
Many of the countries or continents today are being successful because they invest in IT not just the equipment but also in the people that seat in front of the tube. We all know the old paradigm GIGO, if IT in Africa is to make business sense then their should be reasonable investment in Human ware. Many organizations that I know have computers but most of these computers seat there to gather dust, the user knows very little about the machine, in many cases after acquiring the computers many will still use manual processes. At most one may use a word processor on his machine and of course solitaire.
The infrastructure is not yet conducive, a majority of the citizens do not even know what a computer is, have never seen it, can’t afford it and electricity is only seen when they go to visit a relative in Kibuga (town) this makes it even impossible for one to use a computer. This should suggest the cost Africa has to pay to fully benefit from the benefits of Technology like the rest of the world.

South Africa is far better and is at the pinacle of representing the rest of Africa, most of our techologies especiall central, East and South Africa

Information Technology In Africa

Information Technology is the driving force

Love for gorillas with fundraising walk:

By Africa Secrets,

Uganda’s main attraction is the endangered mountain gorilla which is said to share 98.4% of its genes with human beings. Out of the estimated 720 mountain gorillas left in the world, 340 of them are found in the jungles of Bwindi Forest National Park which is also believed to have over 32 groups/families of gorillas.
Selling of gorilla permits since the early 1990s has been the solitary responsibility of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) as mandated by an act of parliament. However, recently Uganda Wildlife Authority decided to privatize one of the habituated groups, the Nkuringo family of gorillas. And decided that with effect from August, the buying of Nkuringo gorilla permits will be done through the Uganda Safari Company which is owned by Jonathan Wright.
A warm mist hangs in the air as you walk and climb, pushing through the forest until you make eye contact. The 350-pound silverback gorilla stares back at you, unaffected, and continues to chomp on the stalk of a banana tree. You, on the other hand, are left speechless, your perspective forever altered by this close encounter with one of humankind's closest relatives.
Nichol, who has a bachelor's degree in zoology, has always been an animal lover. For years, he and his wife, Brenda, have owned and helped find homes for greyhounds retired from racing.
He traces his emotional connection with gorillas to a December 2005 afternoon, when a friend talked him into seeing the remake of "King Kong."
Even more emotional, about a year ago, was seeing the movie "Instinct" on TV, with a scene in which poachers kill gorillas. "It absolutely put me on my knees," he said. "I just knew deep down in my heart and soul I had to do something."
For about two months, Nichol, who works for The Legacy Group, a Bellevue-based mortgage firm, has been taking weekly walks of up to 24 miles on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail, starting near his Woodinville home.
Gorilla photos and memorabilia decorate Nichol’s Bellevue office. In addition to his planned fundraising walk to Portland, he has recorded a music CD and is working on a DVD, both to benefit the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project, a nonprofit organization working in Africa to protect the gorillas.
With the help of friends, he has also recorded a music CD and is working on a DVD, both to benefit the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project, a nonprofit organization working in Africa to protect the gorillas. He also is accepting donations for the project. And he plans to visit Rwanda to see the gorillas himself for the first time this fall.
What you don't see is that Nichol, 42, is preparing to put his feet where his heart is. In June, he plans to walk from Seattle to Portland to raise money for a nonprofit group working to protect the last 700-some mountain gorillas on Earth.
"Some people call me the Crazy Gorilla Guy," says Drew Nichol, and by now you've pretty much figured out why. What you see is evidence of Nichol's passion obsession, perhaps for Africa's mountain gorillas, one of the most endangered species on the planet.
Those closest to Nicole demonstrate what he really feels. For example Wuebel is in awe of Nichol's dedication. "He really wants to make a difference on this, and I don't think he's going to stop until he does."
