The heart of Africa crossed for love

Africa is the only preserved and perfect continent that prides a combination of culture and traditions from yesteryear creating a true life experience for all visitors. This makes it remains the last natural habitat for the majority of wildlife which every one cherish and admire. Still, Julian Smith also visited Africa a month before his wedding, and spent weeks retracing the route of Ewart Grogan, a young British swashbuckler who became the first person to trek across the length of Africa from south to north in 1900.Smith did the same a century later because marriage was on his mind in the exact way like Grogan. It was both a mission impossible and a mission of love for Grogan since he was desperate to accomplish the feat to impress the family of the woman he wanted to marry. With her blessing, Smith flew to South Africa and traveled north on creaky buses, sputtering motorcycles and crowded ferries, sorting out his feelings about making a lifelong commitment as his fiancée planned the ceremony in Portland, Oregon. Additionally, the goal, “To immerse himself in the romance of Grogan's mission and prove his love to his bride in this unique way”. Grogan made it all the way to Cairo, Egypt, but Smith had to stop in Juba, Sudan unrest and floods in the region simply made it too dangerous to continue.

While on his adventiourous journey, Julian Smith sat exhausted in one of the most dangerous countries in the world, chasing a ghost and wondering what to do next.However; he said that “Africa is such a very safe unique place with rich culture, environment and attractions and though all places visited where very interesting, Rwanda was a real surprise to me. I had never been there before, and you hear so many terrible things, but it was actually one of the most together. Among the many explorers who visited Africa and appreciated, Rogan passed through, but one thing still holds true is that the continent is never dull and once visited one can leave with fresh memories which last forever.
